Terms of Service
Last updated: 7 September 2026
1. About these terms
Welcome to Aatelma. These Terms of Service apply when you visit aatelma.com, use our online store or purchase products from us. The terms “we”, “us” and “our” refer to Aatelma Oy, business ID 2916263-6, a company registered in Finland.
Our online store is powered by Shopify, which enables us to provide our website and online shopping services to you.
By using our website or placing an order, you agree to these Terms of Service and the policies referred to in them. Nothing in these Terms limits any mandatory rights you may have under applicable consumer protection law.
2. Products and artwork
We sell original artwork, fine art prints, paper goods and other artist-made or curated products. Product descriptions, dimensions, materials, framing information and other relevant details are provided on the applicable product page.
We make every reasonable effort to display our products accurately. However, colours and details may appear slightly different depending on your screen, device settings and lighting conditions. Interior mock-ups are provided for inspiration and scale and may not represent exact dimensions unless expressly stated.
Original artworks are one of a kind and available in a quantity of one unless otherwise stated. Minor variations and irregularities in artist-made products are part of their character and are not necessarily defects.
We may update product information, limit quantities or discontinue products. Changes do not affect orders that we have already accepted.
3. Orders and formation of the contract
By placing an order, you offer to purchase the selected products under these Terms. You will receive an automated order acknowledgement after submitting your order. A binding contract is formed when we confirm the order or dispatch the products, unless we notify you that we cannot accept the order.
We may decline or cancel an order for a justified reason, including an obvious pricing or availability error, suspected fraud, payment failure or an inability to deliver to the stated address. If payment has already been collected for an order we cannot fulfil, we will refund it using the original payment method.
Please check the order details and delivery address carefully before submitting your order. If you notice an error, contact us as soon as possible at aino@aatelma.com.
Returns, cancellations and refunds are governed by our Return and Refund Policy.
4. Prices, taxes and payment
Prices are displayed in the currency selected for the applicable market. Prices shown to consumers include Finnish value added tax where applicable. Delivery charges and any other applicable costs are displayed before the order is placed.
For deliveries outside the European Union, the recipient may be responsible for local import duties, taxes and customs handling fees. These charges are not included in our prices unless expressly stated at checkout.
Available payment methods are displayed at checkout. Payment services may be provided by third-party payment providers under their own terms and privacy notices.
We may change prices and promotions at any time, but changes do not affect orders already accepted. If a price is clearly incorrect and you could reasonably have recognised the error, we may cancel the order and refund any payment made.
5. Shipping and delivery
We ship orders from Espoo, Finland. Available delivery methods, estimated processing times and delivery charges are described in our Shipping Policy and at checkout.
Delivery dates are estimates unless we expressly agree otherwise. We are not responsible for delays caused by circumstances outside our reasonable control, but we remain responsible for fulfilling our statutory obligations to you.
For consumer orders, the risk of loss or damage passes to you when you, or a third party designated by you other than the carrier, receives the goods. If you independently arrange a carrier that we have not offered, risk may pass when the goods are handed to that carrier, as permitted by applicable law.
Please contact us promptly if a shipment is delayed, lost or arrives damaged. Keep the packaging and take photographs of any visible damage so that we can investigate the issue with the carrier.
6. Cancellations, returns and defective products
Consumers purchasing online generally have a statutory 14-day right of withdrawal, subject to exceptions provided by law. Products made to the customer’s specifications or clearly personalised may be excluded from the right of withdrawal. Further instructions, exceptions and return conditions are set out in our Return and Refund Policy.
The right of withdrawal is separate from your statutory rights relating to defective or non-conforming products. If a product is faulty, damaged or not as described, contact us at aino@aatelma.com as soon as reasonably possible. Nothing in these Terms excludes or restricts rights that cannot legally be excluded or restricted.
7. Intellectual property and artwork rights
Unless otherwise stated, the website and its contents—including artworks, illustrations, photographs, text, graphics, branding, video and audio—are owned by Aatelma Oy, Aino Papinniemi or the respective rights holder and are protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws.
Purchasing an original artwork or another physical product transfers ownership of that physical item only. Copyright, reproduction rights and other intellectual property rights remain with the artist or rights holder unless expressly transferred in a separate written agreement. The artist may photograph, publish, exhibit and create reproductions of an artwork unless otherwise agreed in writing.
You may use the website for personal, non-commercial purposes. You may not reproduce, distribute, modify, sell, publish or commercially exploit its contents without prior permission, except as permitted by law.
8. Reviews, feedback and customer content
If you voluntarily submit a product review, photograph or other content for publication, you confirm that you have the right to submit it. You grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide and royalty-free right to display and use that content in connection with our website and the promotion of Aatelma. You retain ownership of your content and may ask us to stop using it where reasonably possible by contacting us.
We may moderate or remove content that is unlawful, misleading, abusive, infringes another person’s rights or is otherwise inappropriate for the website.
9. Third-party services and links
Our website may contain links to third-party websites and may use services provided by third parties, such as Shopify, payment providers, delivery companies and social media platforms. Third parties may apply their own terms and privacy policies to their services.
We are not responsible for the content or availability of independent third-party websites. This does not limit any responsibility we have for third parties that process personal data or perform contractual obligations on our behalf.
10. Relationship with Shopify
Aatelma is powered by Shopify, which enables us to provide the online store and related services. Sales and purchases made through the store are made directly between you and Aatelma Oy. Shopify is not the seller of our products and is not responsible for fulfilling your order. This section does not limit any rights or remedies that cannot be excluded under applicable law.
11. Privacy and cookies
Our processing of personal data is described in our Privacy Policy. Certain personal data may also be processed by Shopify as described in Shopify’s Consumer Privacy Policy.
We use necessary cookies and similar technologies to operate the website. Non-essential cookies and tracking technologies are used only in accordance with applicable consent requirements. You can review or change your choices through the cookie preferences link available on the website.
12. Acceptable use
You may not use the website or services:
-
for unlawful, fraudulent or malicious purposes;
-
to infringe intellectual property, privacy or other rights;
-
to transmit malware or interfere with the security or operation of the website;
-
to collect personal data unlawfully;
-
to send spam or misleading communications;
-
to impersonate another person or provide deliberately false information; or
-
to access the services through automated means in a manner that places an unreasonable burden on the website, circumvents technical restrictions or violates applicable law.
We may restrict or terminate access where reasonably necessary to protect the website, our customers or our legal rights.
13. Availability, errors and changes
We aim to keep the website accurate and available, but we cannot guarantee that it will always be uninterrupted or error-free. We may correct typographical errors, inaccuracies or omissions and make reasonable changes to the website, products and services.
If an error materially affects an order you have already placed, we will contact you and provide any remedy required by law, which may include the option to cancel the affected order and receive a refund.
14. Liability
We are responsible for loss or damage caused by our breach of contract or failure to use reasonable care and skill, subject to applicable law. We are not responsible for loss or damage that was not reasonably foreseeable, was caused by information or actions attributable to you, or resulted from circumstances outside our reasonable control.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability where doing so would be unlawful, including liability for intent or gross negligence, or mandatory liability for defective products and consumer rights.
Products purchased for personal use are not intended for commercial resale unless separately agreed. We are not liable for business losses arising from a consumer purchase to the extent permitted by law.
15. Suspension and termination
You may stop using the website at any time. We may suspend or terminate access if you materially violate these Terms, misuse the website or create a security or legal risk. Termination does not affect existing payment obligations, accepted orders or provisions that by their nature continue to apply, including intellectual property provisions.
16. Governing law and dispute resolution
These Terms and purchases made through the store are governed by the laws of Finland. If you are a consumer residing outside Finland, this choice of law does not deprive you of any mandatory consumer protection rights applicable in your country of residence.
If you have a complaint, please contact us first at aino@aatelma.com so that we can try to resolve the matter.
Consumers in Finland may contact the Consumer Advisory Services for guidance. If the matter cannot be resolved, a consumer may refer it to the Finnish Consumer Disputes Board for a recommendation. Before contacting the Board, the consumer should first contact Consumer Advisory Services.
Disputes may be brought before the competent courts of Finland. A consumer may also have the right to bring proceedings in the courts of their place of residence under mandatory applicable law.
17. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time, for example when our services, business practices or legal obligations change. The current version and its effective date are available on this page. Changes do not retroactively alter orders already accepted unless required by law or expressly agreed with you.
